First Aid and Spill Supplies

All laboratories and laboratory support rooms are equipped with first aid supplies to assist laboratory personnel in responding to minor injuries and spill supplies relevant to the activities of the laboratory.  These supplies should be clearly marked, easily accessible, and located near the laboratory exit. All laboratory personnel must know the location of these supplies.  Supplies should be routinely inspected and replaced as necessary.  Office of the Safety Officer will provide and restock spill kits upon request. 

The FIRST AID box

The first aid box should be constructed with material that will keep contents dust- and damp-free. It should be kept in a prominent position and be easily recognized and reached. It should contain: 

  • Instruction sheet giving general guidance 
  • tourniquet 
  • Individually wrapped sterile dressings in various sizes 
  • Sterile eye pads with bandages 
  • Triangular bandages 
  • Sterile wound coverings 
  • Safety pins 
  • A selection of sterile but non medicated wound dressings 
  • Ice-generating packs or spray cans 
  • A first aid manual 

 

Content must be regularly inspected at each visit and substituted if expired
