After Hours Access
Working Alone and after hours access guidelines must be followed at all times.
- Normal operating hours for the /Laboratories /Workshops are Sunday to Thursday, 8.00AM to 5.00PM.
- Normal Working hours of all labs: From Sunday – Thursday 08:00 – 05:00 pm
- After hours during week days: 05:00 – 10:00 pm
- After hours during weekends: Friday: 1pm – 10 pm, Saturday and national holidays: 8:00 am – 10:00 – pm
- (Applicable during the Academic year only)
As a general rule undergraduate students DO NOT have after-hours access. Their request can be considered only due to exceptional reasons
Students requiring access to lab outside of normal operating hours must obtain formal approval from the respective Department Chair and lab Manager 48 hr. in advance on the appropriate after-hours access form (annex 4).
The approved date and timings must be strictly followed. The after-hours access available only to the individual approved students, so each one has to get the approval. Anyone including Faculty and Staff must notify the University Security when accessing Laboratories/Workshops after hours and or working alone.
Working Alone
Working alone refers to situations where people may be exposed to risks because:
- The area they are working in is remote from others or isolated from the assistance of others because the nature, time or location of their work; or
- It involves the operation or maintenance of equipment, or the handling of a hazardous substance; or the work is dangerous for a person to perform alone. Where any of the above is applicable, working alone must be avoided.
For working alone, the following apply:
- The student should not work alone without supervision by an instructor/Faculty member.
- While Faculty members can work alone, they must inform at least one other faculty member about the time of using the machines.
- Faculty or student must not work alone where medium to high-risk equipment is to be used.
- During any emergency situation call the security.
