Engineering Controls

Laboratory bench tops must be constructed of chemically resistant and flame retardant synthetic materials.  Bench tops must be capable of supporting the weight of equipment and should be resistant to chipping or damage from routine laboratory operations.  Sufficient space must be provided for research activities and equipment placement.  Desks and shelves should not be used as a substitute for properly designed bench tops.
